Six Steps to the Perfect BBQ

Barbequing is a timeless tradition.  Whether you are sharing a grilled meal with family, friends or your other half, there is nothing quite like the flavors of a fine barbequed cuisine.  Everybody likes to say that they are a grill master.  But, the truth is there is a little bit of science to a truly great barbequed meal.  Here are a few tips to help you:

  • A clean surface is the first step to a really great barbeque.  Use a Grill Daddy cleaning tool to get the most thorough clean possible.
  • Brush the grill with oil or onion to prevent sticking.
  • Make sure to preheat the grill anywhere from 20-30 minutes before placing meat on top to ensure consistent cooking at even temperature.
  • Divide your grill into two areas: high, direct heat and low, indirect heat.  High heat is great for quick cooking foods like hotdogs and hamburgers, and low heat works best with vegetables or leaner cuts of meat like chicken and turkey to keep juices moving and minimize any burning.
  • Minimize flipping meat over repeatedly, leave it on the grill to fully absorb heat and cook through. If timed properly, meat (especially red meat) doesn’t need to be flipped over more than once. Plus, opening and closing the lid allows hot air to escape creating a loss of concentrated heat surrounding the grill's surface.
  • Avoid piercing meat with a fork or knife when handling on the grill.  Try the 2 piece tong and spatula or other Grill Daddy barbeque tools to help keep the juices in to ensure a full flavor.
